species and genus - 2007/05/18 10:42 Hi. I am giving a presentation on hedgies and was doing some research. I found some discrepancies and wanted to get your opinion. I have seen that there are 4 or 5 genus and 14 or 16 species. The notable differences were that Hemiechinus hughi was listed elsewhere as Mesechinus hughi (Central Chinese Hedgehog) and Hemiechinus dauuricus was also listed as Mesechinus dauuricus (Daurian Hedgehog). Some scientists put the Daurian hedgehog into the Hemiechinus genus. Also Erinaceus roumanicus (Northern White Breasted Hedgehog) was not listed on one list, but seeming lumped into Erinaceus concolor (Eastern European or White-Breasted Hedgehog). ANy ideas?
Thanks,
Robin
