Extraordinary Hedgehogs
We at Hedgehog World would like to set aside some time to recognize some extraordinary hedgehogs. All of these hedgehogs have imperfections that may lessen them in the eyes of some people but we think they're great and we would like to tell you why. Do you have an extraordinary hedgehog you'd like to share?
Please Note
Some individuals have chosen to be offended by the posting of pictures featuring friendly and healthy, but physically imperfect, animals. These animals are no less members of our family because of their injuries and imperfections, and anyone who chooses to take issue with them being featured along their more physically ideal relatives should feel free to take a flying leap.

Brooke's Poem
Nobody is perfect,
as you can see.
I may look a little weathered,
because I'm elderly.
One ear is missing,
Due to a spat.
Some call me over conditioned,
But in truth, I'm just fat.
I lost an eye to a quill poke,
when I was a wee.
And I have a scar on my leg,
because my sibling bit me.
I'm so far from perfect,
How could anyone love me?
Yet I'm on display,
How could it be -
That someone is proud,
Of this old tattered girl.
Someone stood by me,
though I'm not a pearl.
Someone loves and cares
and plays with me every day.
Someone sees my beauty,
regardless of what others may say.
That someone is my owner,
and she thinks I'm a gem.
She doesn't want me to change,
she loves me the way I am.

Brooke
Sometimes we find a special person or creature that makes us stop and appreciate life and the magic within it.
Recently, I had cause to appreciate one of my hedgehogs even more than ever. Brooke, a lovely apricot pinto girl, took on an additional three babies from a mom who wasn't interested in caring for them. While there are many moms here that are happy to foster, what I was asking of Brooke was extremely special. She had four of her own too. On top of that, Brooke has only one eye. She lost her other eye to a quill poke as a wee one, but it hasn't slowed her down at all. She's a very friendly and happy girl, very easy going and loves to be held and cuddled. She is an incredible mom, and makes sure that none of the babies ever get neglected. She currently resides in Maryland with Terrapin Hedgehogs and is two years old.
Shanni
When she was young, Shanni had both of her ears nipped by a cage mate. She lives at Hamor Hollow Hedgehogs where, despite her physical imperfections, we think she is beautiful. Shanni is an extremely friendly hedgehog and an excellent mom. She has raised 3 litters and 2 foster babies, for a total of 9 hoglets.
Shanni is 3 years old and will be considering retirement once she weans her current litter. Her daughter Sake remains at Hamor Hollow and will pick up the torch to continue the family lines.
Skidplate
Due to a birth defect, Skidplade's right leg doesn't work quite right. We think it either had to do with her positioning in the womb, or the actual birth process.
Skidplate still manages to maneuver her leg and get around very quickly and easily. She is an excellent climber and quite an escape artist. Skidplate is 7 months old and lives at Hamor Hollow.
