    Good cage?

Does this look like a good cage for a hedgehog?

    Re:Good cage?

How long is it? When P-k arrived she came in a cage that was about 24 inches long, too short. I purchased another cage with a tray that is 29 inches long, it is sufficient.

The second cage and the one in your link have plastic clips on the sides - they do not snap secure, they dangle and if the hedgie lifts the side of the cage they are supposed to snag it so it can\'t open any further. Now, I don\'t know if anyone out there has had hedgies escape from these kind of cages with the clips.

The smaller cage P-k came with had fasteners on the side - same metal as the cage is made out of and they snap securely. I really felt secure with those (of course with any cage I\'m still clothes pinning the door shut at the top for I know some pudgy hedgie is going to body slam his way out).

I think that $60.00 is high for that cage. My second one cost me about $30 plus shipping and I got it on ebay and then saw the same thing at Agway.

Have you considered Sterilite? Max came in Sterilite and it really seems to be working well, and I know a lot of the other people on this site do that. It has to be a lot cheaper then the cage you are looking at.

I have had people use these cages for years, they work well overall - and certainly the one in the photo is plenty big at 40 1/2\"L x 18\"W x 20 1/2\"H

The Sterlite storage containers work well also, but if you\'re wanting the more formal \'cage\' look - this one from Super Pets would be perfect.

40 is a really good size. Have you ever heard of any hedgies escaping because the clips don\'t snap securely?

No, I\'ve never heard of that specifically. I have heard of small babies having issues with the wire tops, but babies that small shouldn\'t be away from their moms yet anyway.

I have 2 of these exact cages. They are nice & roomy; plenty big for the wheel, toys, hide out, litter box etc.... The latches on mine snap VERY securely.

I am using a Sterlite container now, but I am looking in the near future to update to a better cage. This seems like a nice one. Thanks all for your responses.

I have one of those, and it\'s a great cage. It snaps securely, and I have never had any issues with any cages with the plastic snap sides.

I prefer the Marichorio cages because they open from the top and side. It makes cleaning easy.

Mine does open from the top & side...you must have one of the smaller ones that don\'t have the top door.
