    Toys ideas

Ok, I just got my baby albino hedgehog, Persephone from a breeder. I'm trying to decide which toys are best. I have already gotten her a Wodent Wheel as highly recommended by the breeder and a jumbo size guinea pig ball for when she's out. Other than those I do not know why shed like. She has ALOT of energy. Any ideas?

Wodent Wheels aren't super high in my roster of opinions. They are a nuisance to take apart to clean, and they can be responsible for facial damage when the hedgehog looks out through the side while running. They also can be difficult for larger hedgehogs to get in and out of.
Please check out our articles section, there is an article at http://www.hedgehogworld.com/content...tal-Enrichment that can help give you some suggestions.

The Carolina Storm wheel is GREAT! I cannot recommend it enough, for the cleanability and safety factors they cannot be beat. Larry is easy to work with, and the wheel is very reasonably priced.

I bought a carolina storm wheel and loved it, only thing was it took up too much space in my smaller cages for the babies; but that really isn't a major problem. All my hedgies LOVE it and the litter pan underneath saved me so much on cleaning.

I also purchased a Wodent wheel, and my hedgie loves it, but I do agree that it is a pain to clean night after night. I'd LOVE to get a carolina storm wheel, as I see they are highly recomended, but there is NO room in my cage for one. I'm starting to think that I'm gonna have to rethink things a bit.

For wheels, the cake topper wheels like the Carolina Storm Wheel are the best for cleaning, I purchased one from someone and all I need is a little soap and water and it's sparkling like new! I had a Wodent Wheel when I had a pair of sugar gliders, and they are a royal pain to clean simply because of having to take them apart, soak them, dry the bits and put them back together again every time.

I wouldn't recommend the rodent balls for play time, just because I've heard of hedgies getting toes and nails caught in the slits and causing injuries. I also think of what happens if they potty in there...ick.

I've found some great toys for my hedgie in the baby toy aisle at the local department store as well as cat toys and hot wheels cars (dump trucks are a big hit at my house b/c we hide mealworms in the bed and our hedgie has to tip it to get them out!). And of course a staple is the toilet paper tube!
I'm also working on getting together a supply list and pattern for a tunnel I made for m little guy that he's in love with, so I'll share that soon. ^_^ Pretty much the staple for toys is look at it and think of how a hedgie might get stuck in it...most cat balls are out b/c they have holes a hedgie could get a foot or their mouth stuck in...but if they're solid they're fun for them to push around with their noses. TP tubes can be cut down the side and the edges rounded off.
