    What do I do?

    Hey Guys,

I'm having a bit of a problem with my hedgie, when he sleeps he goes into the igloo and buries himself under the towel which is meant to replace the wood shaving, I don't want him to do that! so I tried putting a shirt inside his igloo but he would go under the shirt then under the towel again so I figured that a towel would work so I placed a towel inside his igloo but when I checked on him the next morning he was sleeping outside the igloo!
    HELP ME PLEASE!

Some hedgie feel secure when they're under the bedding liner in their cage, that's why your hedgie does that.

When we had fleece liners for my hedgie, he'd get under the fleece at one end of the cage, and then crawl under the fleece until he was in his igloo. So he would be in his igloo, but completely under the fleece. He did that for weeks. I think he just felt safer that way. It was strange, but I don't think it is dangerous in any way. We eventually did switch to shavings, so now he just buries his head in those.

They are burrowing animals, so it's normal when they do that.

Don't use a towel or other stringy fabric in the cage. Strings can get wrapped around toes or feet and cut off circulation. If you do want to use cloth, use something like fleece that will not produce strings. But yeah, they are burrowing animals and like to make nests-some are happier with bedding so that they can do that.

We use fleece liners with some fleece cut into strips for hedgie to burrow into in their igloos and that seems to work with out the shaving.

I have had a hedgie get fuzz from fleece that pilled up and stretched out and wrapped around his leg, and it wrapped so tight it had to be surgically removed. So, I just felt like I needed to add that anyone using fleece probably wants to check it regularly and discard if it's pilling in any way that could be potentially dangerous.

Harley used to get under his fleece as well, now I just keep different 'blankets' in his igloo for him and he snuggles in those when he wants, we cut up a bunch of old t-****s just using the middle part so there is no thread to get stuck in his feet.
