I don't think it is getting too hot that is causing a problem. Can you look on the cleaner that you used and see if it has warnings on it and what they are.
Woke up this morning to Winston vomitting, loose stools, and wobbly. Both back legs are weaker than the front, but he is dragging one back leg. That leg is causing him to stumble and he'll walk on it funny, like the top of his foot is on the floor. He didn't feel cold and I didn't see anything physically wrong with his leg. After about an hour of discovering this, I got him to eat some chicken baby food and drink a little bit of water. He ran in his wheel last night and looks like normal poo too.
When I had him out last evening, he was doing fine. I scrubbed his cage out, using the same "green" cleaner that I always use and cleaned it the same way I've always cleaned it. He had fresh water, fresh food, and clean litter (yesterdsay's news). Right before going to bed, my boyfriend spilled something on the rug (near Winston's cage) and used shot spot to clean it. It does have a strong chemical smell. So we covered Winstons cage up 3/4 of the way with a sheet and turned on his heat emmitter. We opened the window over the spill area and had a small desktop fan blowing out. He also opened the kitchen window (opposite wall of the area in question) for more air circulation.
When I checked his cage temperature it was about 74 degrees, I just can't remember how long from the time I removed his sheet to when I checked the temperature. So, not sure if he got too hot and that caused his symptoms.
He perked up when he smelled the fresh air from outside like always, so he hung outstide for a while with him wrapped up in a shirt since it's a bit chilly. We have all the windows in the main part of the house open, and Winston and I are hanging in the bedroom with the air purifier (no chemical smell in here). He's wrapped up in his fleece blanket, partially under the sheets, sound asleep right now.
Since it's Sunday, my vet isn't open. Just hoping anyone can offer some insight on what is wrong with him, what caused it, and what to do:
Did he injur his leg and would this cause the vomitting and loose stools?
Did the chemical smell cause the vomitting and loose stools which caused him to become weak?
Did he get too hot, or a possible combination of these things or something I haven't thought of yet.
Please share your ideas/suggestions.
Thank you

This is what I found. If he is not 100% normal I would print out this sheet and get him to a vet. There is a 24 hour number to call for the cleaner too if that helps at all The walking with the top of the foot on the floor is a neurological symptom which can be serious. Not meaning to scare you-if he is fine now then a vet check tomorrow would probably be fine. If he still has symptoms right now though there may be something they can do to prevent damage. I'm not a vet so this is just what I would do.

I just checked on him and he is walking around fine now. He even tried to get under the pillows. I'm keeping my eye on him and checking on him every so often. He's eaten another bite or two of the chicken baby food, and hasn't gotten sick or pooped again. Thanks for the help.

You're welcome-I'm glad that he seems good now![]()

he's walking normally again, but still seems out of it a bit, probably because I keep waking him up to check on him. His breathing seems to be faster than normal and he hasn't taken any more food or water. Really hoping the vet can see us first thing in the morning. Do you think I should take a stool sample with me?

They may not need it but it won't hurt to bring it if you have it

Vet appt is at 1:15 today. We set Winston up in the den for the night and caged him in by using a small animal fence. He's not happy about it and managed to poo on the outside of it. I know he'll feel better once he's in his cage. I wanted to be sure the house is completely aired out before I put him back in his cage.

I hope he gets better soon and/or the vet can diagnose what is wrong. Keep us posted! Andrea
