    NEW RESCUE HEDGEHOG. :(

    Hi!
I have a new rescue hog.

He had the worst nails I have EVER seen!!! just shocking.
His nails were so over grown they formed together and look to be permanently deformed.
    So sad

I clipped his nails and gave him a bath.
He is so sweet and is now my cuddle buddy!

    I named him Cole.

He looks like a lot like a charcoal colored hedgie.

What color is he you think?
He has dark looking feckless on legs and a dark stripe of black going down belly and skin on back is dark grayish.
    He is gorgeous!!!
Have pics below of his poor little foot that has the overgrown nails before I clipped them.

    Thanks.

Can you get another picture of the foot? Hard to see what we are looking at. The toenails may improve some with time and careful trimming. What is that on the underside of the foot?

I have trimmed them before I made the post actually and I did it right. Looks better now.
Thats the only pic I have and that big thing on side of his foot is 2 overgrown toenails that formed together. I have new seen anything like it! He actually looks to be born with three toes! the third toes is bent to the side and grew that way, poor little thing
He let me clip his nails without a fuss too!
People shouldn't get hedgehogs without doing there proper research first.

I believe his toes is that way due to a birth defect or recessive gene. Can you post a picture of the foot with the clipped nails? I know of a couple of breeders who have seen the 3 toes pop up (in 1 hedgehog out of a litter of 5, but then have seen it pop up again when crossing the same male and female). The babies have a normal life and never experience any problems walking or running. It isn't a feature that we encourage, and I don't know if anyone who has bred a 3 toes hedgehog so I couldn't tell you how it is passed on.

I don't believe it is possible of 2 toe nails to grow together. They can curl under and imbed in the paw (and it looks like either that happened or was close to happening).

Anyway, it sounds like you have a very nice pet. I am glad you rescued him and that he is in good care. Enjoy playing with him and don't worry about the foot.

I love him so much already.
He is such a great pet!

I can't get a pic right now but may get one later, I have been real busy.

Also, is he a Charcoal white hedgehog?
    Is that a rare color?
