Yes-any time you give new foods or change foods it can upset their stomach. Try to make changes gradually and only give treats occasionally
My Hoggie is only ten weeks old and his poop has always been normal ie. small dark brown pellets. But this evening while he was out on me he pooped and it was very loose and dark brown and I was wondering whether it was the chicken he has just started eating over the last few days. The chicken is plain and not greasy. Could someone please let me know if this is anything to worry about, I'm very concerned.

Firstly, thank you Anne for your advice in response to my post. I will stop the chicken for the time being and only feed him one or two mealworms very occasionally. I'll keep him on his main diet of cat biscuits and hopefully it will clear up as quickly as it came.

Yes-at 10 weeks, they are still pretty new at eating solids so see if that helps![]()

Thanks once again Ann, may I just ask one more thing? The chicken we have been buying him is cooked supermarket chicken that has been kept in a fridge. Should we be cooking our own fresh chicken for him, and if so which is the best way to cook it? Also could keeping the chicken in the fridge so close to feeding time make it too cold for his little tummy? I do apologise for asking so many questions but I want everything to be right for him. We have Reptiles which we are experienced in keeping but this is our first Hoggie. Thanking you once again.

If it's something you would eat, then it is fine for your hedgehog. There is some sort of ummm-thinking of a good way to say this- gross looking chicken here in the US -I don't buy that for me so I wouldn't give it to the hogs either. Chicken and turkey are good because they are not real fatty compared to other meats. I wouldn't necessarily cook it special for the hedgehog if you only have one. I would warm it to room temp if its been in the fridge.

Just in case you were wondering, I prefer my turkey and chicken warm and fresh.
Stress and change can also cause loose or funky stools. It should even itself out in a day or 3.

Thanks very much for your most welcome advice Ann & Kelly I will make sure all his food is at room temperature. By the way his poo seems to be returning to normal now we've had him on a strict cat biscuit only diet for a couple of days. Once again thank's guys very much for all your most welcome help.
